On March 3, 2018, at approximately 12:50 a.m., the container ship Eugen Maersk encountered a technical issue shortly after departing from Hamburg. This unexpected malfunction necessitated an emergency anchoring on the Elbe River, near Stade, causing significant disruption as the river was closed to vessels exceeding 120 meters in length for over an hour. To stabilize the situation, tugboats were dispatched to assist the Eugen Maersk while the crew addressed the technical challenges. Maersk Line is set to elevate its fleet by upgrading its eight E-class vessels, each with a capacity of 15,550 TEU, to accommodate an additional 1,300 TEU.
