The bulk carrier 'Evangelia L' has been adrift in the North Pacific since October 21, 2017, as it made its way from Guatemala towards Caofeidan, with an expected arrival on October 31. However, after facing technical difficulties, the ship altered its course towards Honolulu on October 27. Following the engagement of Five Oceans Salvage for assistance, the tugboat 'Manuokekai' (IMO: 7722061) successfully reached the 'Evangelia L' on October 31. The towing operation is set to bring the bulk carrier into Honolulu's port by November 3 for necessary repairs.

In a successful joint effort against piracy, the World Food Programme (WFP) vessel, Evangelia L, has securely reached the port of Berbera, thanks to the collaboration between the EU’s counter-piracy operational headquarters (OHQ) and the Chinese Navy. Evangelia L, chartered by the WFP for delivering crucial humanitarian supplies to Somalia, coordinated with CNS Xiangtan, a Chinese naval warship. After strategic communication between the EU OHQ and Chinese naval officials, it was decided that CNS Xiangtan would rendezvous with Evangelia L in Djibouti's port. This escort mission was essential to ensure the safe transit of the vessel and safeguard it from potential pirate threats. This successful operation highlights the importance of international cooperation in maintaining maritime security and facilitating humanitarian efforts in vulnerable regions.
