Evergreen Boosts Capacity of L-Class Boxships

Mar 29, 2019 00:50

Evergreen Marine is enhancing its fleet of L-class container vessels by increasing their size significantly. As per Alphaliner's latest report, the Taiwanese shipping giant is currently managing a total of 30 vessels in this category, though the specifics on how many will undergo upgrades remain to be seen. The modifications will elevate the capacity of these ships to 9,466 TEU, a notable increase from their original capacity of 8,452 TEU. Much of this added capacity will be achieved by raising the structures of the deck houses. The latest addition to this super-sized fleet, Ever Laden, recently docked on the US East Coast, marking a significant milestone. Meanwhile, another vessel, Ever Lenient, is undergoing extensive upgrades at Huarun Dadong Dockyard in China, further reflecting Evergreen's commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities.

Collision Incident in Kaohsiung Involves Ore Carrier and Container Ship

Jun 19, 2018 10:38

On June 19, 2018, a maritime accident unfolded in Kaohsiung when the bulk ore carrier 'China Steel Innovator' collided with the starboard side stern of the 'Ever Laden.' The incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. as the 'Ever Laden' was securely docked at Evergreen Pier 79 Container Terminal while the 'China Steel Innovator' was approaching berth No. 101 after arriving from Port Hedland with a cargo load of ore. The adverse weather conditions and poor visibility played a significant role in this collision. Despite dropping both anchors to slow its momentum and receiving tugboat support, the 'China Steel Innovator' could not avert the allision. As a result, both vessels suffered damage, and the ore carrier was subsequently berthed at Kaohsiung Bulk Terminal.
