In a significant move for maritime trade, Taiwan's Evergreen Marine Corp. is set to see its impressive container ship, Ever Legion, dock at Shahid Rajaei port located in the southern province of Hormozgan, Iran. Ebrahim Idani, the director general of the Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Department, shared this information through Iranian media on Tuesday. The Ever Legion, a fifth-generation marvel of engineering measuring 335 meters in length and boasting a draft of 14.5 meters, has begun its journey from Shanghai, China. Its itinerary includes stops at multiple ports across Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the Jebel Ali Free Zone in the United Arab Emirates before reaching Iran's largest container terminal. Scheduled for arrival on August 5, this ship's visit marks a notable return for Evergreen, which last called on Shahid Rajaei port in 2000. The company had to suspend its operations in Iran due to sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States concerning Tehran's nuclear program. This development represents a potential thaw in maritime relations and highlights the evolving dynamics of international shipping routes.

Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea has successfully handed over the 9,200 TEU new L-class vessel, EVER LEGION, this past weekend. This marks the 14th ship in a series of 20 identical vessels commissioned by various affiliates of the Evergreen Group between July and September of 2010. These ships are not just a part of a singular series; they are included in a broader order of 30 units, which saw Evergreen place additional orders for ten more identical sister ships at CSBC Kaohsiung in May 2011. The delivery of EVER LEGION signifies a significant step in enhancing Evergreen’s capabilities in the competitive trade route between the Far East and North West Europe.
