Taiwan’s prominent container shipping company, Evergreen Marine Corporation, proudly announced the launch of its sixth state-of-the-art containership, the Ever Libra, on Tuesday at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in South Korea. This new vessel, boasting a capacity of 8,452 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), is scheduled for delivery on October 22. Notably, the Ever Libra is equipped with advanced environmental features such as an alternative marine power system, a ballast water treatment system, and an electronic-controlled fuel-injection engine designed to facilitate slow steaming, reinforcing Evergreen's commitment to eco-friendly shipping practices. This new addition is part of a broader fleet rejuvenation initiative that Evergreen embarked on in 2010, which included an impressive order of 20 L-type containerships from SHI. Following this, in 2011, Evergreen placed an order for 10 additional sister vessels from the Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation. With the eighth of the thirty newbuildings expected to join the fleet by the end of this year, Evergreen continues to strengthen its position in the global shipping industry.
