Coast Guard Conducts Medevac for Injured Crew Member of 'Ever Living' Near Dutch Harbor

Sep 23, 2018 17:29

On September 22, 2018, a crew member aboard the 'Ever Living' required urgent medical attention after suffering burns from an incident involving the ship’s incinerator. The situation unfolded 57 miles southeast of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, when the vessel’s master sent an email notification to the Coast Guard 17th District Command Center. At the time of the initial report on the evening of September 21, the 'Ever Living' was approximately 621 miles from Dutch Harbor. Following the report, Coast Guard duty flight surgeons evaluated the crew member’s condition and recommended a medevac due to the severity of the burns. In response, command center watchstanders instructed the master of the 'Ever Living' to alter the vessel's course toward Dutch Harbor. Meanwhile, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew stationed at Dutch Harbor was alerted to prepare for the emergency evacuation. The Dolphin aircrew successfully hoisted the 28-year-old crew member from the 'Ever Living' and transported him to meet personnel from LifeMed in Dutch Harbor, who provided further medical care before transferring him to Anchorage. Weather conditions during the operation included 6-foot seas and wind speeds of 17 mph.

Evergreen Marine Singapore, part of the esteemed Taiwanese Evergreen Group, has officially welcomed the 9,200 TEU container ship EVER LIVING into its fleet. This vessel marks a significant milestone as the 15th unit in a series of 30 L-class ships being constructed for the company. Notably, the EVER LIVING is the inaugural ship from this series built at the renowned CSBC shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
