Mediterranean Shipping Company Unveils New Australia Express Service
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has recently introduced its new Australia Express service, which establishes a direct link between Australian ports and key destinations including Europe, India, the Middle East, and Pakistan. This innovative service eliminates the need for cargo transshipments through Singapore, with the initial sailing scheduled for March 23rd aboard the SCT Zurich departing from Sydney. Robert Boyce, the MSC state manager for Western Australia and the Northern Territory, highlighted that this service is a restructuring of existing liner services to offer a more straightforward connection from Australia to major international markets without routing through Singapore. Historically, MSC has relied on the island nation as a vital transit hub for shipping goods to Europe, India, the Middle East, Pakistan, and the Red Sea region. Boyce explained, “This is not an additional service in the market but rather an update to our current offerings, designed to enhance competitiveness by removing transshipment delays at Singapore.” The MSC vessels will embark on their journey from Australia after making stops in Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. The new service route will see vessels navigate from Singapore to Chennai, Colombo, King Abdullah Port, Gioia Tauro, Valencia, Fos, La Spezia, Naples, Gioia Tauro, and Suez, before heading south to Pointe des Galets and Port Louis, concluding their journey back in Sydney. This express service is intricately connected with MSC's extensive network, promoting improved transit times and a broader transshipment network, thereby enhancing overall service efficiency.
