On April 11, 2018, the cargo vessel 'Virginia Trader' encountered distress as it ran aground near Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, while traveling from Veracruz. Remarkably, the SCOPIC clause was not activated during this incident. Salvage operations commenced under the terms of the LOF 2011 agreement, with Smit Salvage Americas taking charge of the recovery efforts. After successful salvage, the 'Virginia Trader' made its way to Santo Tomas de Castilla, arriving on April 15 at 7:40 p.m. The vessel resumed its journey and departed on April 16 at 7:15 p.m.
