Exploration Drilling Off Suriname's Coast Starting September 19
In an official announcement, the Maritime Authority of Suriname has alerted mariners about upcoming exploration drilling activities off the country's coast. The drillship Maersk Developer is scheduled to begin operations on September 19 and continue until December 3, 2020. The designated drilling coordinates are 07° 21’.270 N – 055° 33’.247 W (WGS 84). For the safety of all navigational activities, vessels are advised to maintain a minimum distance of 1,000 meters from the Maersk Developer during its drilling operations. To support these efforts, several Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs) will be active in the region, including MV Bourbon Topaz, MV Gerard Tide, MV Felton Tide, and MV National Energy Explorer. Important communication should be conducted via VHF channels 16 and 77. As a reminder, there is a mandatory SAFETY ZONE of 1,000 meters around the drilling site. The Maersk Developer will be stationary and will display the appropriate signals to indicate its presence. Mariners are urged to heed this advisory for a safe navigation experience.
