Aliança has successfully launched the "Fernão de Magalhães," marking the christening of the second vessel in a series of four identical container ships designed to enhance its cabotage fleet. The grand Naming Ceremony took place on September 26 at Porto Chibatão, located along the picturesque Rio Negro in Manaus. Dionéia Thomas, spouse of Julian Thomas—General Manager for the East Coast South American region at Hamburg Süd and Aliança—proudly served as the Sponsor for the ship. Esteemed guests at the event included Dr. h.c. August Oetker, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Oetker Group, and Dr. Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd. With the addition of the "Fernão de Magalhães," Aliança continues its commitment to modernizing its fleet by significantly improving its cabotage services. This vessel, part of the "explorer series" manufactured by Shanghai Shipyard Co. Ltd., boasts a remarkable slot capacity of 3,800 TEU, nearly doubling the container capacity compared to previous Aliança vessels operating on this route. This strategic fleet update signals Aliança's proactive approach to enhancing shipping capabilities within the region.
