MSC's Songa Alya Marks New Era at Genoa IMT Terminal with Maiden Call
The MSC container vessel 'Songa Alya,' boasting a capacity of 3,100 TEU (2480 @ 14t), is set to enhance the partnership between the Messina Group, based in Genoa, and the Geneva-headquartered MSC. This significant event will take place on Friday, September 8, when the Songa Alya makes its maiden call at the Genoa IMT terminal, a facility managed by the Messina Group. This call forms part of the newly established MAF1 vessel sharing agreement, which includes MSC, Ignazio Messina & C., and Cosco. The IMT terminal is currently experiencing impressive growth in traffic, achieving a remarkable 20% increase in container traffic over the first seven months of 2017. The MAF1 service, which launched just days prior on August 28 with the voyage of the 'Calais Trader,' a container vessel operated by Cosco, features a fleet of six vessels ranging from 2,500 to 3,100 TEU. This service directly connects western Mediterranean ports to West African destinations, with guaranteed weekly departures from Vado Ligure, Genoa, Castellon, Valencia, and Algeciras, heading to Dakar, Lome, Apapa, Tincan, Tema, Takoradi, and Abidjan. This strategic route promises the best transit times available in the market. Moreover, with robust connections established through the Genoa and Castellon hubs, Ignazio Messina & C. can provide highly competitive transit times for shipments originating from North Africa, the Levante region, the Red Sea, the Gulf, and Iran. This milestone marks a promising expansion in maritime logistics for the region and reinforces the collaborative framework between these key industry players.
