Ship 'FG Sefa' Faces Ban from ParisMOU Ports Following Detention in Italy

Feb 24, 2025 12:33

The 'FG Sefa', a vessel that has recently come under scrutiny, was detained on January 27, 2025, in Corigliano Calabro, Italy. During the inspection, authorities identified a total of 19 deficiencies, with seven categorized as severe enough to warrant the vessel's detention. These critical safety issues included: 1. Emergency Systems: Fire drills showed inadequate knowledge among the crew. 2. Life-saving Appliances: Rescue boats were deemed unfit for use. 3. Life-saving Appliances: Inflatable liferafts were improperly stowed. 4. Life-saving Appliances: Maintenance of equipment was not up to required standards. 5. Safety of Navigation: Necessary navigation charts were missing. 6. Labour Conditions: Electrical systems were found to be unsafe. 7. ISM Compliance: ISM certificate did not meet required specifications. Following these findings, the vessel was released on February 17, but it faced an immediate consequence in the form of a port access ban from all ports in the ParisMOU region. This restriction was enforced under section 4 of the Paris MoU, Article 16 of the EU Council Directive 2009/16/EC1, and national Decree-law 61/2012, permitting only port and anchorage access in the ship's flag state. The 'FG Sefa' departed from the port on February 19 and was headed to Piraeus, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) scheduled for February 20. This incident is not the first for the 'FG Sefa'; it previously experienced detentions on April 25, 2024, in Varna, due to 17 deficiencies, and on April 25, 2023, in Rethymnon, where it faced 24 deficiencies that resulted in a 23-day detention.

Collision Incident in Rethymno: ASVIRA and TALOS Anchors Intertwined

Oct 25, 2015 10:16

On October 22, the general cargo ship ASVIRA experienced a precarious mishap while unmooring at the port of Rethymno, Crete. During the process of heaving, ASVIRA's portside anchor inadvertently became entangled with the starboard anchor of the ro-ro vessel TALOS. This unexpected anchor entanglement led to a loss of control for ASVIRA, resulting in an allision with the pier. The impact caused minor damage to ASVIRA, leaving three scratches or cracks on the aft area, each measuring approximately one meter in length. Both vessels were subsequently detained for inspection as a precautionary measure, with TALOS being required to offload vehicles that were en route to Piraeus. As of 0700 UTC on October 25, ASVIRA remained docked at Rethymno, awaiting further developments.
