Heroic Rescue: Lifeboat Responds to Engine Fire Emergency near Eastbourne
On November 12, 2025, the All-Weather Lifeboat 'Esme Anderson' was launched to provide assistance to the 'Finnwave', a cargo vessel traveling from Rosslare to Zeebrugge. The incident occurred approximately 11 nautical miles southeast of Eastbourne when the ship issued a Mayday distress signal due to an engine fire. Despite the moderate sea conditions and force five winds, the lifeboat raced to the scene. As the 'Esme Anderson' approached, it was confirmed that the crew aboard the 'Finnwave' had successfully extinguished the fire, though they lost engine power in the process. Upon the lifeboat's arrival, RNLI volunteers assessed the situation and determined there was no need for evacuation. Instead, they took position alongside the incapacitated vessel as the crew worked diligently to anchor. For over an hour, the lifeboat remained on standby in challenging conditions until, at 6:30 a.m. UTC, the ship successfully deployed its anchor and stabilized. Once the vessel was secure, the Solent Coastguard instructed the lifeboat to return to its station. The Coastguard maintained communication with the 'Finnwave' throughout the repair process. The cargo vessel eventually lifted anchor around 2 p.m. and successfully arrived at the port of Zeebrugge at 9:40 p.m., where it has been stationary as of November 17. Swift Passage of Finnwave Causes Tanker Adrift Incident in Brunsbüttel
On March 16, 2014, a maritime incident occurred in Brunsbüttel when the roro vessel 'Finnwave' departed from the Kiel Canal locks at 9:30 p.m. heading east toward St. Petersburg after leaving Antwerp. As the Finnwave navigated past the navy pilings in Brunbüttel-Ostermoor at an excessive speed, it caused the Danish tanker 'Jutlandia Swan' (IMO: 9350757) to break free from its moorings and drift into open waters. Fortunately, the Jutlandia Swan was resecured and subsequently resumed its journey from Sillamae to Rotterdam, departing at 1:40 a.m. on March 17.
