RMS Wedau Faces Engine Issues Near Kiel Canal
On January 17, 2017, the cargo vessel RMS Wedau encountered significant issues with its auxiliary engines while en route from Hamina to Rotterdam, just as it was preparing to enter the Kiel Canal for a westbound passage. The vessel experienced multiple blackouts, prompting an urgent response. The tug Stein was dispatched and assisted in towing the RMS Wedau through the Kiel Canal locks at approximately 10 a.m. Once through, the ship was safely docked at the Voith Quay in the North Port of Kiel, where it underwent necessary repairs. After resolving the mechanical problems, the RMS Wedau resumed its journey on January 25 at 6:30 a.m., with a new arrival estimate set for January 27. On March 1, 2015, the cargo ship RMS Wedau found itself stranded on a muddy sandbank situated between Goole and Brough while navigating from Hamburg, stopping at Immingham before heading to Goole. The Bridlington Coastguard was actively engaged in monitoring the situation as the vessel remained ensnared in soft mud. Thankfully, there were no indications of pollution risk.
