The container vessel 'Greta', on its way from Las Palmas, undertook a remarkable rescue operation, saving 29 distressed migrants stranded in Malta’s waters for nearly 24 hours. This humanitarian effort came after Malta’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) instructed another nearby merchant ship, 'Skyline S', not to intervene. The critical situation unfolded as the boat carrying the migrants signaled for assistance. Ultimately, the stranded individuals were safely brought aboard the 'Greta', which later docked in Puerto del Rosario on June 20, 2023, marking a significant act of compassion on the high seas.

On the evening of March 6, 2021, the cargo vessel 'Pacora', sailing from Guayaquil to Balboa, became a victim of piracy when armed robbers boarded the vessel near buoy 66. The incident occurred shortly after the onboard security personnel had disembarked, leaving the ship vulnerable. The assailants spent approximately 40 minutes on the ship and seemingly had prior knowledge of which containers to target, breaching nine containers during their time on board. During the attack, a crew member located in the bow area was taken hostage, and his phone and radio were confiscated. The robbers fled the scene near buoy 52, leaving with two boats loaded with stolen goods. Fortunately, the 'Pacora' was able to continue its journey and was scheduled to arrive at its destination on March 9, with the crew remaining safe throughout the ordeal.
