Pirate Skiff Encounter: FPSO Bravo 8715027 Incident in Gulf of Aden
On October 3, 2010, at approximately 4:19 p.m., the vessel 'Star II' encountered a harrowing situation while en route from Fujairah to Egypt. The ship issued distress calls after being pursued and fired upon by a pirate skiff in the Gulf of Aden. Responding swiftly to the emergency, the German frigate 'Koeln' dispatched a Sea Lynx MK 88 A-helicopter to the scene. The helicopter's doorgunner effectively halted the skiff with precautionary warning shots. Following this, a boarding team approached the skiff, which had a crew of six on board. However, upon inspection, the team found no incriminating evidence, as the suspected pirates had discarded suspicious items, including weapons and ladders, prior to the boarding. Consequently, the boarding party was compelled to release the individuals aboard the skiff, resulting in a tense standoff in this notorious maritime region.
