In February 2021, the supertanker VLCC Astipal made its way to the COSCO shipyard in Dalian, China, marking the beginning of its transformation into a Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit (FPSO) designated for Woodside’s Sangomar field offshore Senegal. Upon arrival, the vessel was rebranded as FPSO Léopold Sédar Senghor. This ambitious conversion project is slated to take approximately two years to complete, aiming to enhance production capabilities in the region.
