Hurtigruten, the Norway-based expedition cruise leader, is taking a bold step towards sustainability by announcing a complete ban on unnecessary single-use plastics across its fleet of passenger ships, effective from July 2, 2018. This initiative is part of the company's ambitious plan to become the world's first fully plastic-free cruise operator. In this groundbreaking effort, Hurtigruten will be replacing plastic straws with durable metal alternatives and will eliminate a wide range of single-use plastic products, including cutlery, bags, coffee cup lids, toothpicks, aprons, and butter packaging. Starting April 2018, Hurtigruten is set to embark on an exciting series of voyages along the East Coast of the United States and Canada.
