Working Conditions Aboard the Freya

On January 31, 2020, at 07:55 a.m., the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in southern Norway was alerted that the vessel 'Freya' had run aground in the waters southwest of Askvoll, while carrying a crew of nine. The ship sent out a distress call for assistance, leading to the deployment of the lifeboat 'Halfdan Grieg' from Måløy, which reached the scene by 10:40 a.m. The 'Freya' had become stranded on the Flatøyna reef. The decision was made to wait for the rising tide to attempt a refloating operation. A workboat was utilized to help maneuver the ship's stern away from the islet. Once successfully pulled into deeper waters, the expedition ship activated its own engines and made its way to Florø, safely docking at 1:00 p.m. at the port's cargo terminal. Following the incident, maritime authorities initiated an investigation, leaving it to both Norwegian and Swedish officials to determine if a bottom inspection of the ship was necessary.
