On February 18, 2018, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Arklow Rival', carrying a shipment of cement, encountered significant issues while navigating 50 kilometers north of Roscof in the English Channel. The ship had departed from Lisbon on February 15 and was on route to Sunderland, with an expected arrival date of February 20. In response to the situation, Arklow Shipping, the Irish company that owns the 'Arklow Rival', initially dispatched its sister vessel, the 'Arklow Rainbow', which was headed towards Warrenpoint, to provide assistance. Concurrently, French maritime authorities deployed the emergency tug 'Abeille Bourbon' from Brest. Attempts to tow 'Arklow Rival' were unsuccessful, prompting Arklow Shipping to seek additional help. The British tug 'Cannis' (IMO: 8102141), based in Fowey, was then called in and arrived around midnight. By the morning of February 9, the 'Cannis' successfully took the 'Arklow Rival' in tow, proceeding at a steady three knots towards Fowey. The vessel resumed operations on March 31 and made its way to Sunderland, arriving on April 2.
