Deck Cargo Incident: Fri Wave Loses Logs off Scottish Coast

Mar 13, 2015 19:06

On March 10, 2015, the cargo vessel 'Fri Wave', while making her journey from Dundalk to Wismar, faced fierce wind conditions reaching 10 Beaufort off the coast of Scotland. The ship, battling towering waves peaking at five meters, tilted dangerously up to 55 degrees, leading to the loss of significant deck cargo consisting of logs overboard when the securing mechanisms failed. Upon arrival at the port of Wismar on March 13, the remaining cargo was found in a precarious state. To ensure safety, the vessel was accompanied by a police boat during its final approach to the harbor to prevent further cargo loss. The 'Fri Wave' underwent careful inspection by traffic authorities on March 16. After addressing the damages and removing the dislodged cargo, the ship departed Wismar at 4 p.m. on the same day, setting sail for Szczecin with an expected time of arrival by March 17.

Trouble Strikes Again for Freighter Fri Wave

Jan 03, 2014 05:19

The freighter Fri Wave faces yet another crisis, just 36 days after its grounding incident in Swedish waters. On January 2, the vessel encountered a tragic event while docked in Brunsbuettel when a Polish crew member suffered a heart attack while descending a ladder. Unfortunately, the individual later succumbed to the condition in a local hospital. In a development that has raised concerns, water police detected alcohol on the captain’s breath, revealing a blood alcohol level of 0.7 per mil approximately an hour and a half after he had consumed two bottles of beer.
