Frio-Oceanic Ship Details and Seafarer Feedback

On August 4, 2012, a medical emergency unfolded as a Russian crew member aboard the reefer vessel "Chaguinola Bay" required urgent assistance off the coast of Mossel Bay. The dedicated volunteers at NSRI Mossel Bay Station 15 sprang into action, dispatching their sea rescue boat, Vodacom Rescuer, to meet the vessel, which was en route to Mossel Bay from Port Elizabeth. Upon reaching the vessel, located two nautical miles east of the Mossel Bay harbor breakwater, the NSRI crew, joined by an ER24 paramedic, found the seafarer in a stable condition, described as 'walking wounded.' The patient appeared to be suffering from a food-related illness. He was safely transferred onto the sea rescue craft and swiftly brought ashore. Once on land, the individual was transported by ambulance to Life Bay Hospital in Mossel Bay, where medical staff provided the necessary treatment. After receiving care, the seafarer was discharged and placed in the hands of King and Sons, the ship's agent, ensuring he was well taken care of following his ordeal.
