SAR Operation Concludes Without Locating Missing Fisherman from Langenes

Nov 17, 2022 09:36

A tragic incident occurred on November 15 at the Barents Sea, where 26-year-old Jo Aron Kvinge Rogne from Longva in Møre og Romsdal reportedly fell overboard from the trawler 'Langenes.' With a crew of 20 members, the vessel was conducting operations when the unfortunate event took place. Following the incident, the shipping company initiated a crisis team and informed the victim's family while the Norwegian Central Rescue Service commenced an extensive search and rescue (SAR) operation. However, on the afternoon of November 16, the Northern Norway Rescue Center based in Bodø declared that the search efforts for the missing fisherman had concluded without success. Tore Roaldsnes, the general manager of Bluewild, the owner of the freezer trawler, expressed his deep sorrow upon receiving the news. He extended heartfelt condolences to both the family and the crew during this challenging time, and he expressed gratitude to the numerous individuals involved in the search efforts. During the SAR operation, 11 fishing vessels participated, coordinated by the Central Rescue Center Northern Norway, with the Coast Guard ship 'Barentshav' overseeing the mission. In addition to this, two rescue helicopters were deployed to assist in the search. To investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, both the police and the Accident Investigation Board will conduct detailed inquiries. Furthermore, the Tromsø crisis team is providing support to the crew over the phone and will be present upon their return to port. The Ålesund crisis team has also been notified to offer assistance to the relatives and other personnel associated with the shipping company as they navigate this difficult time.

Intensive Search Underway for Missing Fisherman in Northern Norway

Nov 16, 2022 11:33

On November 15, 2022, a distress call was made to the Northern Norway Rescue Center from the fishing vessel 'Langenes,' reporting a crew member overboard near Bjørnøya. In response to this emergency, a total of 11 fishing vessels, along with the Coast Guard ship 'Barentshav,' have mobilized for the search efforts. As of the morning of November 16, 2022, no trace of the missing fisherman has been found, prompting a continuation of the sea search operations. The 'Barentshav' is taking the lead in the search and rescue (SAR) mission, utilizing its resources to scour the challenging waters. Two helicopters have also been deployed; however, they returned to their bases after failing to locate the individual. A special SAR helicopter from Svalbard joined the operation just past midnight, while another unit, SAR Queen, took off from Banak, refueled at Bjørnøya, and reached the search zone around 01:05 a.m. The area is currently experiencing rough seas and a slight gale from the west, complicating the ongoing search efforts. The operations are being coordinated from the Northern Norway Central Rescue Center in Bod, with hopes of locating the missing fisherman as conditions allow. The commitment of the rescue teams demonstrates the maritime community's dedication to safety and prompt response in emergencies at sea.
