In a significant milestone for the global shipping industry, Singapore's esteemed commodity trading firm Trafigura Group has officially named the first of 35 new tankers designed for crude oil and product transport. The event occurred on September 20 at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries’ state-of-the-art shipyard located in Jeolanam-do, South Korea. Present at the ceremony was Dr. Lam Pin Min, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health. As part of the festivities, Dr. Lam’s wife, Dr. Jeanette Chen, had the honor of being the godmother to the inaugural vessel, dubbed the Mt Marlin Singapore, which boasts a impressive 150,000 deadweight tonnage (dwt) as a Suezmax tanker. Also in attendance was Chin Hwee Tan, CEO for Trafigura’s Asia Pacific operations, whose wife, Michelle Lee, served as the godmother of the second tanker named, the Mt Marlin Siena, which shares the same dwt specifications as its predecessor.
