On February 13, 2019, a rescue operation unfolded approximately 230 miles off the coast of Galveston, Texas, where the U.S. Coast Guard teamed up with the crew of the research vessel 'Hugin Explorer' to save a distressed sailor. The 57-year-old skipper was aboard the sailing vessel 'Pomodoro', which was reported to be taking on water and required urgent assistance. The crew aboard the 'Hugin Explorer' promptly notified Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston of the emergency situation and relayed the distressed sailor's radio calls for help. In response, the Coast Guard launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Houston and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry from Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi to provide aerial support for the operation. Siem Offshore has successfully negotiated an extension of the charter for its seismic node vessel, the Hugin Explorer, in a new agreement with Fugro Geo Vessels. This extension, which spans an additional 15 months, builds on the previous charter agreement made in April 2012, when Fugro initially extended the contract for the 2006-built vessel for six years. With this latest agreement, the firm charter period is now set to conclude on July 1, 2019, solidifying the partnership between Siem Offshore and Fugro in the marine exploration sector.
