Fugro Supporter Joins Search Efforts for Missing MH370
The hunt for the elusive Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has gained momentum with the arrival of the "Fugro Supporter." This research vessel embarked on its mission from Denpasar on January 5, 2015, after successfully completing trials in Bali. The vessel is en route to the designated search zone, where it is expected to initiate its underwater search operations by late January. Jointly financed by the Australian and Malaysian governments, the addition of the Fugro Supporter increases the fleet of vessels involved in the extensive underwater search for the missing aircraft to four. Recent bathymetric surveys have unveiled previously undiscovered seafloor features, including treacherous terrains and deep trenches. Equipped with Kongsberg's advanced HUGIN 4500 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), the Fugro Supporter is set to explore areas that may not be adequately examined by the other vessels’ technologies, enhancing the chances of locating the missing flight.
