Stranded Trawler 'Rehua' Successfully Towed to Otago
On December 10, 2017, the fishing trawler 'Rehua' was safely towed to the head of Otago Harbour following an extensive salvage operation that spanned over 48 hours. The vessel had encountered a serious issue on December 8 when its propeller became inadvertently ensnared in fishing nets deployed by another company in the Southern Ocean. Fortunately, the nearby 'San Enterprise,' another vessel from Sanford, came to the rescue, towing the 'Rehua' approximately 400 kilometers to the pilot station at Otago Harbour's entrance. Upon reaching the port, two Port Otago tugs, named 'Arihi' and 'Otago,' assisted in guiding the trawler into Dunedin for necessary repairs. To address the underlying issue, divers were dispatched on December 11 to remove the entangling net from the vessel.
