On June 5, 2012, the skilled personnel from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak successfully executed a medevac operation involving an ailing crewmember from the fishing vessel 'Retriever,' situated over 200 miles south of Cordova. Responding to an urgent call from the vessel, the 17th Coast Guard District watchstanders learned that one of the crew members was suffering from severe symptoms consistent with internal bleeding. In response, a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, deployed in advance to Cordova, along with an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew, set off to reach the location of the distressed fishing boat. Arriving at 9:20 p.m., the Jayhawk team efficiently hoisted the crewmember aboard before returning to Cordova. Upon arrival at 11:20 p.m., they transferred the patient to local emergency medical personnel, who facilitated a commercial medevac to Anchorage. Remarkably, the patient was conscious and capable of walking directly from the helicopter to medical services upon their arrival.
