The Gal: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On January 28, 2025, the maritime vessel 'Gal' faced detention in Antalya due to an alarming total of 15 deficiencies, three of which were classified as particularly serious and led to the decision for detention. Additionally, the emergency lighting system, batteries, and switches were reported to be inoperative, posing a significant safety risk. Fortunately, the 'Gal' was released from detention on January 29, and the ship set sail from the port heading towards Rhodes. The estimated time of arrival at Rhodes is marked for January 31, 2025. On March 8, 2023, at around midday, the Thessaloniki Port Authority received an urgent report from the captain of the cargo vessel 'Gal' regarding a critical injury sustained by a 26-year-old crew member. The ship was en route from Thessaloniki to Nogara when the unfortunate incident occurred, prompting immediate action. 'Gal' redirected to the Thessaloniki anchorage, where the affected crew member was swiftly transferred to the support vessel 'Afovos'. He was then successfully transported back to Thessaloniki Port. Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel were on standby, and the injured crew member was quickly taken by ambulance to the University General Hospital of Thessaloniki for further treatment.

On January 16, 2020, the vessel 'Christine', on its route from Frederiksvaerk to Riga, veered dangerously close to grounding off the coast of Helsingborg during the night. The Swedish Maritime Administration made multiple attempts to establish communication with the ship, eventually achieving contact just in time. Thanks to the prompt actions taken, the ship altered its course and narrowly avoided disaster. In light of the situation, the Coast Guard requested that a pilot board the vessel to ensure safe navigation to Landskrona, where 'Christine' docked at 2:20 a.m. on January 17. Following the incident, authorities arrested the ship's master in Malmö after the prosecutor suspected him of operating the vessel while under the influence. Preliminary investigations revealed that the captain had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.38 per thousand. The ship was able to set sail again on January 18 at 8:20 a.m., this time under the command of a new captain. 'Christine' is currently expected to arrive in Riga on January 20 at 7 p.m.
