On January 13, 2021, a dramatic maritime rescue unfolded as the tug 'Garth Foss' teamed up with the US Coast Guard to tackle a crisis in Anacortes, Washington. This followed a severe storm that swept through the Pacific Northwest on January 12, resulting in high winds and tidal surges that impacted local maritime operations. The storm led to the alarming sinking of a 300-foot by 50-foot concrete floating pier in the vicinity of Lovric’s Sea-Craft, where three vessels were moored. Among the affected was the tug 'Hellen S', which found itself ensnared in mooring lines and required urgent detangling and secure re-mooring. Additionally, the decommissioned Coast Guard Cutter 'Acushnet' faced similar entrapment. To stabilize the situation, the 'Garth Foss' was called in to assist, successfully securing the vessels in a temporary location. Furthermore, the decommissioned ferry 'Chilkat' was forcefully freed from its mooring, subsequently drifting away and capsizing near the Guemes Island ferry terminal. Fortunately, the vessel was vacant of fuel and oil at the time of the incident, and no individuals were on board any of the affected vessels, leading to no pollution being reported.
