The chemical tanker 'Gas Prodigy' remains anchored in a designated safe zone off the coast of Fuzhou, as efforts to address a defective flange have shown limited success. Repair operations, conducted between February 11 and February 23, have rendered the vessel still too unsafe for berthing at port to discharge its cargo of liquid propylene. To mitigate risks, a portion of the cargo from the affected section was successfully transferred to a barge during a ship-to-ship operation, which unfolded from February 29 to March 1.

On February 10, 2020, the tanker 'Gas Prodigy,' which had transported 2,400 tons of liquid propylene from Limay Terminals, arrived at the Fuzhou Chemical Terminal in Fujian Province. During the offloading preparations, a leak was detected in a flange on cargo tank no. 1 of the vessel. In response to the potential danger posed by the leak, which could release propylene gas, authorities promptly relocated the tanker to Jiangyinzhen Anchorage, positioning it at coordinates 25° 21.41' N 119° 24.90' E. Due to the flammable nature of propylene when mixed with air, a safety perimeter was established around the tanker to mitigate fire and explosion hazards. A technical response team boarded the vessel on the evening of February 12 to address the issue. As of February 13, repair operations were still ongoing, emphasizing the importance of swift action in maritime safety protocols.
