On Friday afternoon, August 12, 2011, the Greek-owned LPG tanker MT GAS PRIDE, flying the Liberian flag, faced a perilous situation when it was targeted by a group of seven armed pirates. This incident took place approximately 135 nautical miles north of Bab El Mandeb in the Red Sea as the vessel was en route from Suez to Fujairah. The pirates, heavily armed, attempted to seize the tanker and opened fire before boarding. However, the crew's swift response proved vital; they quickly retreated to a secure area known as the citadel, prompting the assailants to abandon their attack. The crew comprises 2 Ukrainian nationals, 14 Filipinos, and 1 Latvian, all of whom remained unharmed during this harrowing encounter.
