Engine Failure Causes Allision at Hodeidah Port

Mar 08, 2019 09:34

On March 6, 2019, a maritime incident occurred at Hodeidah port involving the bulk carrier 'Magnum Fortune.' While navigating towards the port, the vessel experienced an engine malfunction that led to it colliding with the 'Gas Odyssey,' a tanker stationed at Dolphin berth no. 2 for the purpose of discharging liquid petroleum gas. The allision transpired at approximately 11:35 a.m. Fortunately, the damage was limited; the 'Magnum Fortune' suffered issues with its railing and air vent pipe, while the 'Gas Odyssey' incurred only minor scratches to its hull. After the incident, a tugboat assisted in securing the bulk carrier to berth no. 2, allowing it to start discharging its cargo of 23,000 tons of wheat at around 5:50 p.m. The 'Magnum Fortune' was en route from Djibouti to Hodeidah. Subsequently, the tanker 'Gas Odyssey' departed Hodeidah on March 10, setting its sights on Fujeirah with an estimated arrival date of March 16.

Robbery at Sea: 'Gas Odyssey' Targeted Near Kandla

Oct 17, 2018 10:06

On October 11, 2018, the vessel 'Gas Odyssey' was anchored approximately 11 miles off the Tekra Light in Kandla when it fell victim to a theft. The ship's watch crew discovered ominous footprints on the main deck's portside, leading them towards the forecastle and back to the manifold area. A thorough investigation revealed that thieves made off with two scupper plugs and three cargo reducers, which appeared to have been cut away with a knife. The ship's master speculated that two intruders accessed the vessel using a ladder and executed the theft during the early morning hours. Immediate action was taken as the incident was reported to the Indian Coast Guard, Kandla Port Trust, and the ship's agent. The Indian Coast Guard is actively investigating the matter in collaboration with the Marine Police and the port authorities of Mundra.
