In a dramatic maritime incident at the southern locks of Brunsbüttel, the cargo vessel "Geert K" collided with the wall of the small southern lock on April 21, 2018, just moments after the "Rauli N" faced a similar fate. The "Geert K," which was on its way from Puerto Marín to Szczecin, experienced strong outgoing tidal currents that caused it to drift uncontrollably. This resulted in the vessel striking the steel tail fin of the lock gate at approximately 3:50 p.m. Fortunately, the damage was minimal, and the cargo ship was permitted to resume its journey by 5:15 p.m. The "Geert K" successfully arrived in Szczecin later that night at 11:40 p.m., continuing its mission despite the earlier mishap.
