In a significant breakthrough for Libya's oil industry, the first crude oil shipment in over a year has successfully departed from the Ras Lanuf terminal. On Tuesday evening, the shipment was loaded onto the tanker Gemini Sun, as confirmed by Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC). The vessel, chartered by the Austrian energy company OMV, is currently en route to Malta. This achievement comes on the heels of a turbulent year marked by blockades and armed protests, which saw rebels capture four of the five major oil ports on Libya’s eastern coast, including Ras Lanuf, drastically limiting the nation’s oil export capacity. Although the government regained control of the ports, various technical issues have hindered their full operational return. According to NOC data, Libya's current oil production stands at approximately 450,000 barrels per day, with expectations to double export levels within the month.
