Covid-19 Cases Force Gerda Maersk to Alter Course

May 24, 2021 18:50

In a recent incident, two engineers aboard the container ship 'Gerda Maersk' tested positive for Covid-19 while traveling from Tanjung Pelepas to Yantian. The vessel had set sail on May 9, with the engineers boarding at the Suez Canal, anticipating to disembark at Tanjung Pelepas after their scheduled testing. However, as local regulations came into play, the disembarkation was halted prior to the test results being released. Consequently, the 'Gerda Maersk' continued its journey towards Yantian, with an estimated time of arrival (ETA) on May 12. Once en route, the test results confirmed that both engineers were positive for the virus. As a precautionary measure, the ship was prohibited from docking in Yantian without undergoing sanitization, and crew disembarkation was also restricted. Following these developments, the vessel reversed its course, arriving at Kukup anchorage near Tanjung Pelepas on May 23 at 1:30 a.m., positioning itself at coordinates 01° 15.21' N 103° 27.72' E.
