What Crew Members Say About Gerner-Maersk

On the afternoon of June 13, 2017, a significant cargo incident occurred at Koper Port involving the boxship Gerner Maersk (IMO: 9598932). During routine cargo operations, a stack of five shipping containers unexpectedly toppled over. Three containers tumbled onto the pier, while two others plunged into the water, becoming wedged between the vessel's hull and the pier wall. The fallen containers were laden with various goods, including tires, protective films, and garden furniture, all of which were intended for delivery to Trieste, the next port of call for Gerner Maersk. Unfortunately, all five containers, along with their contents, were declared a total loss following the mishap, which is believed to have been caused by mishandling during loading operations.
