On June 18, 2018, the cargo ship 'Isao' encountered a significant power outage while navigating near the coordinates 14° 38.712' N, 120° 14.101' E, due to anomalies in its fresh water cooling system. The auxiliary engine sustained considerable damage, attributed primarily to a persistent leak in the condenser. This leak resulted in the high-temperature (HT) and low-temperature (LT) pumps becoming filled with excess air stemming from the rapid drainage of the expansion tank. The affected components included the mechanical shaft seal and the shaft bearings of auxiliary engine No. 4, which were compromised by the continuous fresh water leak from the cooling system condenser, ultimately leading to the power failure. Following the incident, the 'Isao' was towed from its anchorage to Keppel Subic Shipyard on June 20 for necessary repairs. By June 26 at 11 a.m., all tests and repairs on the auxiliary engine and the fresh water cooling system had been successfully completed. Subsequently, the vessel set sail from Subic to Shanghai on June 27, with an estimated arrival date of June 30.
