BMS Line Sets Sail with New Container Service in Malaysia
A new player has emerged in Malaysia's maritime landscape with the launch of BMS Line, a fresh container carrier dedicated to enhancing domestic shipping connections. According to maritime analysts at Alphaliner, the line has commenced operations with a weekly service linking Peninsular Malaysia to East Malaysia, specifically connecting key ports such as Penang and Port Klang to Kota Kinabalu, Muara, and Bintulu. Notably, Muara, located in Brunei, is outside the jurisdiction of local cabotage regulations, providing a unique opportunity for this service. CMA CGM, the global shipping giant, is collaborating with BMS Line by securing slots on this new service, facilitating the transshipment of containers at Port Klang to and from its larger vessels. The BMS Line service operates on a two-week rotation utilizing two vessels, the BMS Virgo and BMS Libra, each with a capacity of 1,613 TEUs. These vessels, reflagged to Malaysia in September to comply with local guidelines, were previously known as Godvari and Narmada, having served on an India-based cabotage route under Dubai's Simatech. Following the reflagging, Simatech has upgraded its Indian operations with two larger vessels boasting a capacity of 2,442 TEUs. With this launch, BMS Line aims to strengthen shipping efficiencies and contribute to the growth of the Malaysian shipping sector.
