On the afternoon of May 6, 2016, a significant maritime incident unfolded as the container ship 'Cosco Fukuyama' collided with the product tanker 'Gao Cheng 2' in the Xiashimen Channel, located off the bustling port of Ningbo-Zhoushan. The impact occurred when the tanker made contact with the portside of the Cosco Fukuyama, leading to substantial damage and a breach in the hull of the boxship. In contrast, the tanker sustained damage to its bow. Following the collision, the 'Cosco Fukuyama' was scheduled for repairs at the Zhoushan Ship Repair Yard and was spotted moored at an anchorage to the north of Hengdao Island on May 10.
