The 'Glovis Caravel,' a vehicle carrier loaded with thousands of Teslas and Kias, has made an unexpected journey back to South Korea for a comprehensive cleaning after yellow-spotted stink bugs were discovered onboard upon its arrival in Australia. These pests, known for their potential threat to Australia's biosecurity, can significantly damage agricultural crops, fruit, and ornamental trees. Despite the setback, a limited number of Teslas were successfully inspected and unloaded, making their way to showrooms and customers. The 'Glovis Caravel' docked at Pyeongtaek on January 7, 2024, marking another incident in its history with stink bugs. This isn’t the first time the vessel has faced such challenges; in 2018, the ship was denied entry to New Zealand after authorities found 600 stink bugs, 12 of which were alive. In a similar incident in 2020, a shipment of 10,000 Hyundai and Kia vehicles was also returned due to the presence of these invasive insects.
