Naval Patrol Detains 'Go Canopus' in Ciudad del Carmen for Fuel Discrepancies
On May 23, 2020, the 'Go Canopus' encountered legal troubles while navigating near Isla del Carmen, Campeche. Detained by a naval patrol from the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), the vessel was found to be carrying significantly more fuel than it had declared to port authorities. This ship, with a loading capacity of 800 tons, was found to contain a staggering 450,000 liters of diesel, a quantity that the crew could not adequately justify. The authorities took immediate action, arresting the two crew members on board, which included the captain and an engineer. They were handed over to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) for an investigation into potential irregular possession of fuel. At the time of the incident, the 'Go Canopus' was returning from a 10-day voyage from Dos Bocas, Tabasco. Following the investigation, on May 27 at 6:50 a.m., the vessel was moored at the Ciudad del Carmen Anchorage at position 18° 51.29' N 091° 52.20' W.
