Working Conditions Aboard the Granit

On July 17, 2019, at approximately 6 a.m., the cargo ship 'Granit' encountered a critical engine failure while navigating 16 miles off the coast of Ulsan. The vessel, which was transporting 1,436 tons of general cargo, was on its way from Busan to Vladivostok when the incident occurred. A Korean tugboat arrived on the scene at 1 p.m. and successfully took the disabled ship in tow, guiding it back to Busan. The 'Granit' docked at the Busan port at 4:20 a.m. on July 18. After repairs and necessary inspections, the cargo ship set sail again in the early hours of August 28, resuming its journey to Vladivostok with an estimated time of arrival set for August 31.

The cargo vessel 'Granit' has lost propulsion and is currently adrift in the Sea of Japan, close to Hokkaido. The ship was making its way from Petropavlovsk to Kozmino, carrying 1,040 tons of general cargo along with empty containers when it experienced a power failure. At the time of the incident, the weather conditions were moderately challenging, with east winds reaching 12-15 m/s and wave heights of 1.5 meters. Despite efforts by the engineering team to fix the engine, they were unable to restore power and subsequently requested immediate assistance. Responding swiftly to the call for help, the salvage tug 'Neftegaz-55' was dispatched from Vladivostok to provide support. The tug commenced towing operations, aiming to bring the 'Granit' safely into port with an estimated arrival time of December 27, 2016. As of now, the convoy is making its way towards its destination, traveling at a speed of 5.7 knots.
