What Crew Members Say About Gravity-Highway

A dramatic maritime incident unfolded early Sunday morning off the southeastern coast of South Korea, as a cargo ship collided with a chemical tanker, resulting in a fire onboard the tanker. The accident, which occurred approximately 9.2 nautical miles from Busan at around 2:15 a.m., involved the 55,000-ton cargo freighter Gravity Highway, which was conducting a test run at the time. It struck the Maritime Maisie, a chemical tanker laden with 29,337 tons of hazardous materials. Fortunately, all 91 crew members from both vessels were successfully rescued by the South Korean coast guard, officials confirmed. A rapid response was mobilized, involving 16 coast guard boats, several Navy vessels, and helicopters, which were deployed to the scene amid the emergency. Around 27 crew members aboard the Maritime Maisie faced the most immediate danger from the fire caused by the collision. Firefighters were able to manage the blaze by 10 a.m., while operations continued to extinguish it completely. Some crew members reported minor injuries, including light burns and abrasions, yet overall, the rescue operation was deemed a success.
