On April 30, 2017, at approximately 7:30 PM, the bulk carrier 'Julian' encountered a significant accident at the Durban Bulk Connections terminal, formerly recognized as the coal terminal on the Bluff. The vessel, which had set sail from Xiamen on April 8, overshot its intended arrival at Berth 4 while attempting to unload its cargo. As a result, it collided with the ship loader located at Berth 2 around 7 PM. This unfortunate incident caused considerable damage to the coal loader, which is owned by Bidvest. Reports indicate that the 600-ton, 30-meter-high machinery has been declared a total loss, although there may be some components that could be salvaged.
