Ninth Indian Tanker Successfully Transits Strait of Hormuz Amid Ongoing Tensions
The Indian-flagged vessel 'Green Asha', carrying a substantial 15,400 tons of LPG, navigated through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz on April 5, 2026, marking a notable achievement amidst heightened regional tensions. This transit marks the ninth Indian tanker to safely pass through this vital maritime chokepoint since the onset of escalating conflicts in the area. Following its passage, 'Green Asha' successfully docked at Nhava Sheva on April 9. Despite the challenging geopolitical landscape, India has persistently maintained its shipping operations through this essential route. Prior to 'Green Asha', eight other Indian vessels made their crossings without incident. These included the LPG carriers 'BW Tyr' and 'BW Elm', which together transported approximately 94,000 tonnes of cargo. Additionally, the LPG vessels 'Pine Gas' and 'Jag Vasant' delivered over 92,000 tonnes between March 26 and 28, while tankers 'Shivalik' and 'Nanda Devi' contributed around 92,700 tonnes of LPG to Mundra and Kandla Ports. Other significant operations included the 'Jag Laadki', which transported around 80,800 tonnes of crude oil from the UAE to Mundra, and the 'Jag Prakash', taking gasoline from Oman to Africa. The 'Green Sanvi' also played a vital role, transporting approximately 46,650 metric tonnes of LPG during its own passage. These successful shipments emphasize India's resilience and commitment to secure maritime trade routes in a volatile environment.
