On October 5, a migrant vessel set sail from Boumerdès, located east of Algiers, and was reported missing by the NGO Caminando Fronteras (Walking Borders) on the afternoon of October 7. The situation prompted an immediate response from Salvamento Marítimo, which received the alert at 2 p.m. The Spanish search and rescue boat 'Guardamar Concepción Arenal' was deployed to the search area. By early afternoon, crews successfully recovered a body approximately two miles off the coast of Ibiza. The remains were subsequently transported to Botafoc port, where the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard took custody for investigation. In addition to maritime resources, a Sasemar 308 aircraft launched from Valencia conducted aerial searches to locate the missing boat south of the Balearic Islands and continued operations the following morning. A Frontex aircraft was scheduled to further assist with the search efforts later on October 8.
