Working Conditions Aboard the Haj-Abdallah-T

On June 2, 2012, a significant maritime rescue unfolded in the Taiwan Strait as the freighter 'Easy Success' responded to a distress call from the sinking French yacht, 'Tipsy Frenz'. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. when the vessel activated its Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) amidst challenging conditions, located at 21-46.6 N 118-02.8 E. The 'Tipsy Frenz', a Wauqueiz Centurion 45S, was one of four competitors in the Taiwan Strait Race and began to take on water, prompting the crew to abandon ship and take refuge in life rafts. The crew of eleven was safely retrieved from the rafts by 'Easy Success'. Unfortunately, by 6:30 a.m. on June 3, the yacht had likely sunk beneath the waves. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Hong Kong coordinated the operation, as weather reports indicated a northeast wind of 20-25 knots with sea heights reaching 3 to 4 meters. After successfully rescuing the sailors, the 'Easy Success' continued its journey to Manila, arriving on June 5, where the rescued yacht crew was transferred to a Coast Guard vessel for safe landing ashore.
