In a significant step forward for the South Canterbury region, the MV Happy Dragon docked at Timaru on Sunday morning, delivering the last essential components for the construction of Holcim's impressive dome. This initiative marks a monumental $100 million investment by Holcim in cement storage terminals and distribution facilities located in both Timaru and Auckland. Glenda Harvey, Holcim's Country Manager, highlighted that the subsequent key milestone involves the arrival and setup of the ship unloading equipment at both terminals. Among the equipment being transported is a substantial cement ship unloader, which, along with another unloader, boasts a combined weight of 240 tonnes. Once operational, these machines will play a pivotal role in enhancing Holcim's capabilities at the port's new dome.

On September 4, 2014, at approximately 10:30 a.m., the cargo vessel 'Happy Dragon' experienced a significant incident as a pipe explosion erupted in its engine room while navigating the English Channel, about 35 kilometers south of Portland. This unfortunate event resulted in injuries to two Filipino crew members, both of whom serve as engineers on the ship. Emergency medical assistance was promptly requested, and a rescue helicopter based in Lee-on-Solent was dispatched to airlift the injured men to safety, as the Portland Rescue Helicopter was already on another mission at the time. The engineers sustained serious yet non-life-threatening facial injuries and were subsequently transported to Dorchester County Hospital for comprehensive treatment. After the incident, the 'Happy Dragon' successfully resumed its journey from Aberdeen to Trieste.
