Captivating Time-Lapse of BigLift's Journey with LPG Tanks
In a remarkable logistical feat, BigLift Shipping successfully transported 18 Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) tanks from Terneuzen, Netherlands, to St. Croix, Virgin Islands, in three separate shipments. The heavy-lifters Happy Ranger and Transporter played key roles in this operation. Happy Ranger made two consecutive crossings with eight tanks each, while Transporter was responsible for the remaining two tanks. These impressive LPG tanks, weighing approximately 315 metric tons each and measuring 53 meters in length with a diameter of nearly 7 meters, posed unique challenges for stowage. To accommodate their size, Happy Ranger made two Atlantic Ocean voyages with two tanks extending slightly over her portside. Thanks to the meticulous work of BigLift's engineering team, the tanks were securely fastened, ensuring that all cargo safely arrived at its destination in St. Croix. You can watch the entire journey in an engaging time-lapse video on BigLift Shipping’s YouTube channel: [Time-Lapse Video](https://youtu.be/F1IGB4c3WUI).
Greenpeace Activists Stage Protest Aboard Happy Ranger Off Fehmarn
On August 26, 2013, a group of Greenpeace activists took a bold stand against nuclear energy by boarding the freighter "Happy Ranger" near Fehmarn, situated between the coasts of Germany and Denmark. The activists strategically shadowed the vessel using their ship, the "Arctic Sunrise," accompanied by five inflatable rafts. Six determined individuals managed to climb aboard the cranes of the ship, which was transporting a steam generator for Areva, a French nuclear company, destined for the construction of an EPR reactor in Olkiluoto, Finland. The protesters voiced their demand for an immediate halt to the reactor's development, intending to spend the night on the freighter as part of their demonstration. Notably, the captain of the "Happy Ranger" assured that no force would be used against the activists during this tense and high-stakes situation.
